As Writer and Illustrator
  • Six Little Ducks (1976)
A retelling of the nursery song about the six little ducks who go to market with a quack, quack, quack.

  • The Wizard's Daughter: A Viking's Legend (1984)
A farmer's son, enslaved by an evil wizard, is aided by the man's lovely daughter in freeing the whole land from the wizard's spell.

  • Froggie Went-A-Courting (1986)
Illustrates the well-known American folk song about the courtship and marriage of the frog and the mouse. Music is included at the end.

  • The Adventures of Simple Simon (1987)
Presents an illustrated version of the simpleton's misadventures. Hidden in the story are characters from sixteen nursery rhymes.

  • Mother Goose and the Sly Fox (1989)
A do-nothing mouse doesn't lift a paw to help when Mother Goose is away at market day and Fox comes calling. Fox tricks his way into their home and carries off six of her seven goslings.

  • Sam Panda and Thunder Dragon (1992)
When the rackety rain machine that rolls across the sky breaks down, Thunder Dragon seeks the help of Sam Panda down on Earth.

  • The Lion's Share (2000)
When Prince Leo, a lion, is born with wings on his back, his father bellows, "Our son will go far!" It's not long before that declaration takes on a literal meaning. The day arrives when Leo flaps his wings and learns that flying is simple - but stopping is another story. Exhausted and far from home, he eventually crash-lands and is found by King Otto of the North, a bear who cares for Leo while he recovers. The best medicine of all turns out to be the books that are read to him - Leo's kingdom doesn't have books. When he's finally ready to return home - after taking flying and reading lessons - Leo will be bringing a wonderful treasure back with him.

  • Over the Hills & Far Away (2004)
    Tommy was a piper's son,
    He learned to pipe when he was young;
The only song that he could play
Was over the hills and far away.
Over the hills and a long way off
The wind shall blow my top hat off.

Come join the fun as Tom, an otter pup, sets out on a merry journey through the various seasons, enchanting young and old alike with his exuberant piping. Among his charmed listeners are raccoons, rabbits, pigs, and a well-dressed snail -- but the most charmed of all is Molly, who accepts his hand in marriage.

In reimagining this traditional folk song, Chris Conover once again proves her incredible skill, which was touted by School Library Journal: "No one portrays animals in a more charming and expressive way than Conover." For the musically inclined, music for piano and guitar is in the back of the book.

As Illustrator
  • The Wish at the Top (1974) by Clyde Robert Bulla
Thinking that to rub the ball on top of the church steeple will make his wish for his mother's happiness come true, a young boy climbs the steeple and then can't get down again.

  • Somebody Else's Child (1976) by Roberta Silman
As a result of his friendship with his school bus driver, Peter gains a greater understanding of what it means to be adopted.

  • Where Did My Mother Go? (1978) by Edna Mitchell Preston
Little Cat searches everywhere for his mother, convinced she is lost and cannot find the way home.

  • Bear and the Kingbird (1979) by Jacob Grimm
When the bear insults the kingbirds' chicks, a humorous battle ensues between the land animals and the flying creatures of the world.
