Alternative Literary Festival

May 8 – 12, 2008, in New Orleans, Louisiana

  • WHAT

The dates for the Sixth Annual Saints and Sinners Literary Festival are May 8 to 11, 2008. Dorothy Allison, Mark Doty, Jewelle Gomez, Jim Grimsley, Aaron Hamburger, Stephen McCauley, Val McDermid, Tim Miller, Michelle Tea, and Elizabeth Whitney are already confirmed and we hope that you will join us in the French Quarter for a weekend of literary revelry.

    The Master Class lineup includes
Aaron Hamburger: Transcending Seeing for Setting ; Amie M. Evans: The Fine Art of Wowing an Audience; Stephen McCauley: Real Live Characters; Val McDermid: From Idea to Finished Book; Jim Grimsley: Reassessing a Problem Manuscript -- Strategies for the Second Draft; Michelle Tea: Your DIY Career -- How to Build a Sustainable Writing Life from the Ground Up; Dorothy Allison: Uncensored; and Mark Doty: The Challenges of the Memoir. A number of exciting social events are also being planned -- including a premiere production of the full-length play from our second annual contest (winner to be announced), a performance of A Day Without Sunshine by Elizabeth Whitney, and a performance of Us by Tim Miller. Feel free to email ideas for literary panel topics and ideas for discussions. If you are planning to register for the event and would like to participate in the reading series, there are still reading spaces available.  (This information is subject to change.  For up-to-date information, go to http://sasfest.org.

Dozens of the most dynamic authors, editors, publishers, activists and readers will be on hand to teach, present and perform at this year's literary weekend.
